The Mainship 34 was intended as a fuel-efficient family cruiser and its introduction just before the fuel crisis in the late 1970s practically ensured its instant success.
Since that time, this Mainship model has become one of the most popular 34-foot cruisers ever built.
The Mainship 34 Motor Cruiser produced over 900 MK34's from 1978 to 1980.
The MK 34 is constructed on a solid fiberglass, semi-displacement hull with a deep forefoot, slightly rounded bilges, and a full-length keel.
She is constructed on a solid fiberglass laminate and her decks are sandwich construction with fiberglass outer layers and a balsa wood core.
This 34 MK I design has great appeal and had much to do with her trawler like features and sea going characteristics, she can handle the blue water.
Additional features include a teak swim platform, swim ladder, wide, safe, easy to access side decks, a comfortable aft deck, with a hardtop from the fly bridge that extends several feet over the aft cockpit, a fly bridge
A centre console rigid hull inflatable with outboard is deployed with a SeaWise winch mounted on the swim grid
The great appeal of the 34, aside from an affordable price, is her superb fuel economy. With the single Perkins 165 hp diesel engine, the Mainship will cruise quite comfortably and fuel efficiently at 7/8 knots running at 1800/1900rpm with a fuel consumption rate that drops to a remarkable 2 gph.
The practical single stateroom floor plan is well suited for the cruising couple. In the interior, the forward cabin has a large v berth berth and filler cushion, lockers and shelves outboard. More storage is built in below the berth with shelves and large compartments.
The galley is to port and includes all the necessary food-prep necessities with plenty of storage. There is an propane two-burner stove with oven, S/S sink with pressure H/C water, and fridge/freezer.
The enclosed head compartment is to starboard and features a separate stall shower, sink and vanity.
The main salon is up three steps. Here you'll find an open and airy layout with a custom drop-leaf table to starboard and comfortable chairs for relaxing. The entire starboard side of the main saloon has built in storage lockers.
A lower helm is standard in the roomy salon. The entire starboard side of the main saloon has built in storage lockers.
On the flybridge, there is plenty of seating with a helm seat, side bench and an L-shaped lounge seat.
A bridge extension shades the cockpit.
There is a full Sunbrella enclosure for both the flybridge helm and the aft cockpit.
Any couple that is looking for a fuel-efficient, go-anywhere, turnkey cruiser will find this vessel hard to resist.
